Students that are DeafBlind have dual sensory loss in both vision and hearing. The combination impacts both communication and other developmental and educational programming.
The DeafBlind Connection was organized in response to a need to provide a series of coordinated services and programs to DeafBlind students enrolled in the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind (MSAB) and the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf (MSAD).
The DeafBlind Connection is a committee formed by both MSAD and MSAB staff members, representatives from the Minnesota DeafBlind Project and Minnesota Low Incidence Projects. By collaborating educational services, trainings and student needs both in the classroom and in the community, the DeafBlind project's role is assessing and improving services for DeafBlind students at the Academies.
