Literacy Night

MSAD is pleased to offer a special evening out to K-5 students and their families on the last Monday of each month - ASL Literacy Night!  Language is the cornerstone to literacy.  With a solid foundation in language, children blossom into strong readers!  In response to the ongoing recognition of the importance of language and reading, MSAD created ASL Literacy Night, where we combine the love of sharing books, with the fun of learning American Sign Language!

Each month an ASL Specialist tells stories to the entire group, based on a monthly theme. We offer language based activities in an ASL environment for a fun, family-centered event.

After the story, parents and children are divided into separate groups. Each group partakes in a special craft project and plays an ASL Game.  Following the group activities, families watch an ASL movie while enjoying a delicious snack.

The evening concludes with door prizes. Parents are welcome to check out books from our library at this time too. The MN Resource Library has many Shared Reading kits to bring home and enjoy as a family.  Our goal is to encourage families to read to their children at home and we hope that this special night out accomplishes this!

Please see our calendar for future Literacy Night dates.
