Hi, I’m here at Tate Hall this is a dorm on campus for all of the students here. This is really my second home because there are so many activities and experiences that we have had. I would like to introduce our director Ronda, who is an alumni.

Hi there, I’m Ronda Jo Donatucci, Dorm Director here. I graduated from MSAD twenty years ago and now I am back to my second home. This is where I lived for many years when I was a student here. This is Tate Hall, Tate Hall was built between 1913-1915. It is a big beautiful building, it includes the boys and girls dormitory spaces currently. In the past they were in separate locations but we are in the process of building a new boys dorm. So for now the boys are located in Tate Hall. We have K-12 girls located on the first floor, on the second floor in the North Wing is elementary and middle school boys and then on the South Wing is for high school boys. Which includes a senior apartment. Right now we are in the process of building a new boys dorm, soon the old dorm will be demolished and will hopefully be ready by ready by 2018.

Here is a picture of what the rendering will look like.

I’m here in the Educational Center. The Education Center is here to support students that might need tutoring or after school help. It is open from 6-7 each night, Monday-Thursday. We have a lot of communication between the school and the dorm in regards to student assignments, homework, projects, upcoming tests and also helping students with group projects. The room is equipped with computers and is very comfortable.

This is a look at our senior apartments. It is great because there are a lot of privileges associated with that. We have our own kitchen, one requirement to get into the senior apartments is that you have to have a 3.0 GPA or better. If you are curious about what it looks like, let’s take a look.

You can see the different rooms that we have in the dorm. If you are hungry we also have vending machines and the Trojan Store. The Trojan Stores sells different snacks, pizza, pretzels, candy, pop and gatorade. Which is open during specific times, if you are hungry you can head there for a snack. Also, you can ask staff to take you to Walmart, if you want to grab something there, they are happy to take you there. Students also have downtown privileges where you can walk to downtown with other students. Students get more privileges as they get older and can do off campus activities. It is really fun to live in the dorm.

As you can see there are so many different things to do in the dorm. Not only that but we have one really important thing for everyone, that is accessibility. It is critical for all Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, including adults. So what do we have to offer. We have videophones. If you aren’t familiar with videophones, you use it to place a phone call. As Deaf/Hard of Hearing students we can’t use a regular phone but a videophone can help us place calls. You can connect with an interpreter to call your parents or call and order food to be delivered to the dorm. With the interpreter there, nothing can stop you.

Another thing we have is doorbells and fire alarms that are equipped with flashing lights. If you are unable to hear those things the flashing lights help you know that someone is at your door or if there is a fire you will see the lights and know that you need to evacuate. The final thing that we offer in the dorm, is that our dorm is a Deaf friendly environment. As you can see the living room, kitchen, hallways, bedrooms, are very unique and Deaf friendly. It is easy to communicate throughout the dorm, the hallway is long and straight. The other rooms are nice and spacious and give you an area to communicate with your friends, hang out, chat and have a good time. So as you can see there are so many accessible things that are offered in the dorm, it is a great fit for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.

The dorm is awesome because it is my second home, I can hang out with my friends and staff.

I like the dorm because when I first began school here, I didn’t really socialize a lot but as time has gone on, I hang out with people more.

The dorm is impressive because we have the senior apartment which teaches us things for our future.

The dorm is great because we are able to be independent and hang out with our friends.

As you can see there are so many that are offered here. Soon we will be building a new boys dorm. Like we said, there are so many activities and things to do such as the senior apartment. The list goes on and on. It is what makes MSAD an amazing place. If you ask any of the students here, they will all agree that the this is a place for us. You are welcome to visit us at anytime!
