The Minnesota State Academies announce the appointments of Ms. Katherine Wangberg and Ms. Nicole Halabi to the MSA Board
The Minnesota State Academies are pleased to announce that Governor Walz has appointed Ms. Katherine Wangberg and Ms. Nicole Halabi to fill two vacancies on the Minnesota State Academies Board.
Ms. Katherine Wangberg will represent the Minnesota Deaf community on the board, taking the place of Mr. Sonny Wasilowski who served on the board for 8 years. Ms. Wangberg is an alumni of the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf, graduating in 2005. Currently, Ms. Wangberg is an ASL teacher in the Bemidji area.
Ms. Nicole Halabi has been on the MSA Board for the past four years and has been re-appointed for a second term. Ms. Halabi is a retired special education director and fills the position of a current/former special education director on our board. We are grateful that Ms. Halabi is willing to continue serving MSA and sharing her knowledge/skills with the board.
I want to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Sonny Wasilowski and Dr. Marty Duncan for their years of service on the MSA Board. Mr. Sonny Wasilowski served on the MSA Board for two terms (8 years) and has been an advocate for equity, accessibility, and transparency throughout his tenure. He has contributed to many committees and board decisions throughout his years on the board. Dr. Marty Duncan retired from the board (as well as education service) after 50 years of service ranging from teaching, administration positions, superintendent positions, and board member positions in different parts of Minnesota. His 2 ½ years of service on the MSA Board is greatly appreciated as his insight and perspective helped shape our goals and actions in pursuit of improving education access and high achievement for our students. Their contributions have been invaluable and we hope that they will continue to come by every once in a while to visit.
I look forward to the positive future of MSA and hope that you will join me in welcoming Ms. Wangberg and Ms. Halabi to the MSA Board. As soon as the governor announces the replacement for Dr. Duncan on our board, we will share this news with you.
