Description
This position is open for bid and for all qualified job seekers simultaneously. This job is FIRST open to employees of this agency who are in the Special Education Program Assistant (SEPA) classification and are eligible to bid for this job. The vacancy will be filled with eligible bidders first. Other qualified applicants will be considered after the list of qualified bidders has been exhausted.

THIS IS A 10-MONTH PER YEAR POSITION - SCHEDULE IS BASED ON THE SCHOOL CALENDAR

This position will work Monday through Friday approximately 25 hours per week, and will provide paraprofessional Work Program or academic classroom instruction or student management aide support or work program job coaching at the Minnesota State Academy for the Blind. Contribute to the design and delivery of academic instructional programs for blind/visually impaired and multi-challenged students. Provide educational instruction and use a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors. Perform related work as required.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of study at an institution of higher education OR an Associate's degree OR successful completion of ParaPro Assessment,
AND
A minimum of one year of experience performing teaching assistant related duties.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

*Knowledge of blind/visually impaired/multi-challenged population sufficient to understand their instructional needs.
*Ability to read and write English sufficient to understand written policies and procedures and education plans and to maintain records and documentation.
*Human relations skills sufficient to establish rapport with and provide instruction to students.
*Must be able to walk/stand for at least eight hours and lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.


Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to function as an intervener for deaf/blind students

Additional Requirements

This position requires successful completion of the following:

Successful completion of required background checks.

Employees driving on MSA business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to MSA’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
