MSA Student Life

Student Life at the Minnesota State Academies is an essential part of each student’s overall education and personal growth. Across both MSAD and MSAB campuses, our residential and after-school programs provide a supportive, structured, and home-like environment where students learn, connect, and thrive.

Residential Program

Our residential program is an important component of each student’s educational journey. We strive to create a safe, nurturing atmosphere where students feel supported while developing independence and confidence.

Students are guided in preparing for independent living through meaningful experiences that challenge and empower them. Programming focuses on academic support and life skills development in areas such as:

  • Home living skills

  • Personal health, safety, and self-care

  • Social skills and relationship development

  • Time management

  • Leisure and recreational planning

  • Community engagement

Our campuses are supervised by a Student Life Director and Assistant Student Life Director who oversee student safety and programming during evening and overnight hours.

Residential Program Goals

  • Demonstrate respect towards staff, peers, and themselves.
  • Manage personal health, hygiene, clothing selection, and care.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships.
  • Practice civic responsibility

  • Learn home care and maintenance skills

  • Build time management and recreational planning skills

  • Apply problem-solving techniques in group living and community settings

  • Develop a positive self-identity

  • Resolve conflicts in a mature and responsible manner

Our Facilities

Each campus includes dormitories designed to provide comfort and independence. Students are provided with furnished rooms, and each dorm includes:

Transition-aged students who meet eligibility criteria may also have the opportunity to experience apartment-style independent living as part of their preparation for adulthood.

After-School Programs

In addition to athletics and academic competitions, students may participate in leadership organizations, clubs, performing arts, robotics, and other co-curricular opportunities that foster creativity, collaboration, and community involvement.
