MSAD Online Academy
MSAD’s Online Academy is an accredited online learning provider by the Department of Education, providing online learning opportunities for 7th-12th grade Deaf/Hard of Hearing students in Minnesota. Courses are designed to be synchronous and promote a vibrant online learning community where students can connect with peers in a structured, digital learning environment.
Online learning at MSAD provides extensive synchronous learning opportunities (via Zoom). Throughout the semester, students will receive instruction from a licensed Deaf/Hard of Hearing teacher in an accessible, language-rich environment that meets their academic, cognitive and social-emotional needs. Students will receive support on their current coursework and IEP goals along with a class that offers social opportunities and connection with peers and role models.
Attendance is recorded daily by the classroom teachers during synchronous instruction. Students must attend Zoom live sessions with their teachers throughout the day and actively participate in class sessions. Parents and the resident district will be notified by 4pm through an automated email if their child has been marked absent. Final grades and records will be sent to the resident district for the student’s transcript.
Course offered during the Fall 2024 semester will be:
1) Foundations of English, 1 to 2 PM daily
2) Self-Advocacy, 2 to 3 PM daily
Registrations must adhere to the add/drop date of one week past the first day of the semester. Class meeting dates will follow MSA's 24-25 school calendar, August 26 to January 16.
The Spring Semester will start from January 21 to May 29.
There is no cost to families to participate in online learning opportunities with MSAD. Coursework will be funded by a contractual agreement with the resident district instead of the state’s allotted formula funding.
